Becoming a Computer Trainer

Have you ever attended a computer course at a computer training
center and really thought about much money they make on teaching
students? I know when I first started taking classes it just amazed
me on how much money the training centers make for teaching many of
the most popular Microsoft Office courses offered today. Of course
there is big money in certification courses, but the majority of the
home and small business users just want to learn how to use products
like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook FrontPage and Access. That is
were the computer trainer comes in to the equation.

You see, many people do take courses at computer centers but many
don't like to or have to travel to the centers. Some students
don't like the large classroom environments so many don't
even go. Don't even get me started on Computer Based Training
(CBT) and Web Based Training (WBT) methods of teaching. Don't
get me wrong, computer training centers are good and very attractive
to the public. Many of the centers offer very good courses and have
very knowledgeable instructors. The problem is they can't offer
one-on-one assistance to the customer like personal computer trainer
can.

The computer training business can be a very profitable and enjoyable
business for a new business owner. For example, no too long ago I
attended a course myself and realized I was sitting in a class full
of students. After calculating the number students by the price of
the course, I realized the center just made over $2000.00 for only
seven hours of work (the class could have been done in half that
time). That is good money for a computer trainer that could have gone
on-site and conducted the same training. Not only did the center make
over $2000.00, they did it for only one level. There were four more
levels for the same course. Someone is making some very serious
money, don't you think?

Whether you know a lot or a little about computers, you can become a
computer trainer in not just Microsoft Office products but in a
variety of computer related fields. My advice is finding your niche
by looking at not only your talents but your passion. If you do
decide to become a computer trainer, nothing can stop you if you have
the drive and desire to be successful.

Nation's First National Computer Forensics Institute will be Located in Alabama

Computer forensics is becoming more mainstream in litigation and with the amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure on 12-1-2006, more cases will utilize these rules. With the expected increase in demand for qualified and trained law enforcement professionals, the first computer forensics institute has been announced and will be located in Hoover, Alabama. Construction of the facility is expected to begin by mid-April of 2007, with construction completed by January of 2008. Training is expected to begin in July 2007.

"With the ever-increasing prevalence of cyber crimes such as identity theft, computer hacking and online child pornography, it is absolutely essential that we equip our law enforcement personnel with the best training and equipment available," said Governor Riley. "This center will make Alabama the nation's leader in training our local, state and federal law enforcement to combat high-tech crimes. It will become America's institution of excellence in the fight against cyber crimes."

The Center is being funded though a cooperative effort by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Secret Service, and state, county, and local governments. The State of Alabama is contributing approximately $3 million dollars to the Center, to be used for build-up expenses. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is providing an additional $9 million dollars, and the U.S. Secret Service is providing 18 full-time agents to help staff the Center.

U.S. Secret Service agents will teach computer forensics and digital evidence to national, state and local law enforcement at the Center. These agents are in the field and understand the curriculum from a law enforcement perspective. It will include high-tech classrooms, a computer forensic lab, and public education exhibit space.

The Center is expected to train more than 900 law enforcement professionals each year.

Computer Games Can Provide Good Education

To his point if the government doesn?t spend more money on information technology equipment for public education it will definitely loose in future, as the only result of such educational process would be unskillful and unqualified professionals who will require additional training.

For a person who has no or little background about education budget planning, situation in public education and academic performance of students in general, it would rather difficult to form personal point of view to oppose author?s arguments, and he would more likely agree with the author.

David Gelernter, the author of Computers Cannot Teach Children Basic Skills uses a persuasive and critical tone in order to explain and prove his ideas. The arguments he presents are quite well explained and argued, he gives evidence from respective periodical and relies more than on simple statistics, but on the general nature of things which are described by others as well. The comparisons he uses to accuse computer domination in education with electoral campaigns of politicians, about making simple approach to delivering information be dominating over individual thoughts make to accept his view points and agree with him. Being a computer professional, a professor of computer science at Yale, David Gelernter has enough credit to express such point of view, because he as no one else is acquainted with the problems of artificial intelligence and knows that artificial intelligence or modern PC would be not able to substitute a teacher, as education is double-sided, mutual process, which requires the participation of a teacher and student, but not a simple pressure to accept new information.

Inability of Richard Riley to look on the problem from different perspectives and to look for other deficiencies of modern education makes his work to lack some of logical foundation, moreover his individual opinion forces out other possible facts that could be mentioned in his essay as well as it makes the article to look really subjective. He uses a lot general facts about the use and benefits of using computers in modern life, which touch the theme but don?t give an exhaustive argument for its solution. But from another side it would be na?ve to rely only on computers in educational process. As David Gelernter had stated, there has to be a face to face interaction while teaching, it has to be a dialogue, critical thinking and analysis while educating, not a blind perception of information. And that?s why to reach desired equilibrium between the role of a teacher and computer its essential to give advantage to teacher in the practices that require the development of thinking skills, the development of analytical and speech skills and the development of formulating and expressing personal viewpoint as senseless machine would never perform that.
